Intermedia is facilitating Govt – Media Dialogue on Safety of Journalists in Conflict Areas. The dialogue aims to promote understanding between media and government functionaries. One of the dialogues is happening today in Peshawar and the second one is due tomorrow in Islamabad.
This national initiative has been launched jointly by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) in conjunction with Intermedia Pakistan, a Pakistani media development organization to:
(a) Promote awareness about risks facing journalists and media in conflict areas
(b) Promote understanding about needs of security agencies in conflict areas
(c) Remove misperceptions and misunderstandings and promote a dialogue between media and government on safety needs; and
(d) Promote a working relationship between media and government on security issues
As part of this initiative, a series of dialogues is being facilitated between media and government authorities and agencies on the issue of journalists and media facing security risks and how to reduce them.
The dialogue aims to remove the misperceptions and misunderstandings between media and government authorities and agencies on this issue and to promote a working relationship between the two sides that can mutually benefit both sides while ensuring that media’s security needs are met and information needs of citizens and government are addressed.
